Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong announced three AI initiatives at SWITCH 2026 on 10/27: Champions of AI, a national flagship led by Enterprise Singapore with an initial cohort of 24 companies; MARVEL-AI, an A*STAR-led materials-science AI accelerator backed by roughly S$150 million (about US$116 million) in government funding; and expanded agentic AI workshops for SMEs, after a pilot that drew more than 280 micro and small businesses. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) finalized its AI Risk Management Guidelines on 10/7, setting a two-year phased clock for agent governance at financial institutions while dropping the requirement for a dedicated AI committee. Meanwhile, Sea Group deepened its Google partnership on 10/15 — building on a February 2026 deal covering agentic commerce and payments — even as its R&D spend fell 7.8% year over year; Grab extended its OpenAI partnership (running since 2024) to driver training in Thailand and signed a framework agreement with SoftBank and PETROS to explore AI infrastructure in Sarawak, Malaysia.

Market intelligence firm Tracxn reports Singapore-based native AI companies have raised $9.3B through July 2026, while Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand's native AI startups have raised under $40M combined over the same period. Malaysia's government released its National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 the same month, targeting a top-10 global AI Index ranking and 0.8–1.2 percentage points of added annual GDP growth by 2030. Southeast Asian super app Grab has standardized over 500 internal agent services onto its own LLM-Kit framework, cutting new-service launch time from about two weeks to roughly an hour. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) also released a non-mandatory governance framework, SAFR, setting identity-verification and audit requirements for autonomous agents in the financial sector.
