Kawamata is a limestone sport crag near Naguri in Hanno, with many5.10–5.12 routes and specific current collapse/tree hazards to avoid. This guide helps you decide whether it suits your team, when to visit and what to confirm about transport and the approach.

What kind of crag

The rock is limestone (crag description); the readable ROCKTOPO inventory has 111 graded entries. Its scope differs from a complete guidebook.

Kawamata is a limestone sport crag near Naguri in Hanno, with many5.10–5.12 routes and specific current collapse/tree hazards to avoid.

CLIMBING-net and ROCKTOPO have different inventory scopes. A database count does not establish that every route is currently accessible. Sectors remain within this destination; choose the day’s objective and descent before planning equipment.

When to go

ROCKTOPO lists March–June and September–December. Limestone friction and shaded seepage vary with humidity. Easier routes can be polished or steep at the start; do not assume a reliable wet-weather alternative.

Getting there

Public transport

From Seibu Hanno Station check Kokusai Kogyo Bus services toward Naguri/Nago to Kawamata-Naguriko-Iriguchi. Plan the return and allow time for the uphill approach, preparation and descent.

Driving

Drive toward Shimo-Naguri in Hanno and navigate to the community-agreed paid riverside parking, not a forestry-road shoulder near the cliff. Check access and collapse notices after rain.

Parking

ROCKTOPO records the local agreement to use paid riverside parking. Follow current parking-manager instructions rather than older sweet-shop, shoulder or free-parking reports.

Rules before you go

JFA’s October 2025 notice says Hebi-iwa collapsed: stay away. Its January 2026 updated notice still warns of a fallen tree above Miyazaki Midori at Komori-iwa, especially threatening belayers. Neither is a recommended current objective here: check removal/lifting notices and otherwise avoid the affected ground.

JFA’s history records negotiated reopening in 2010; noise, fires, parking and accidents could again jeopardize access. Respect residents and keep access for emergency services.

For a serious injury requiring medical help, call 119. The FDMA guide asks callers to give the location and landmarks. Save the local crag name, target sector and road access offline; ask your insurer whether the climbing style, search and rescue, treatment and repatriation are covered.

Routes by level

YDS and V-grade conversions follow the Mountain Project international grade comparison chart and are approximate; "approx." marks grades the sources give without a/b/c (such as 4 or 5+). The original grade is the one that counts.

The full graded ROCKTOPO table contributes 111 entries, supplemented by the linked public topo/MP rows. Original YDS or Japanese grades are retained; unlisted lengths/pitches remain unspecified. Obtain the current topo for descent and protection. Names shared by different sectors/grades remain separate. A listed route is not a current-access recommendation.

Beginner: up to 6a (YDS 5.10a and below)

Check protection style and the start even on lower grades; a low number does not make a first outdoor lead appropriate.
